Kevin the Troll

This book is about a man his wife and his two children who used to own a mill. They were very poor so they had to shut it down. One day Arkin went out to find some mushrooms in the wood. Then he saw a huge mushroom. He was about to cut it down but then he saw a little blue thing sitting on it.

Then the little thing said, "hello my name is Kevin. I shall let you have two wishes."

So first of all he wished that the ugly troll was wearing some clothes so then all of a sudden the little troll was wearing some very nice clothes and his second wish was that he had lots of money. So then he realised that his pockets were jam packed with money and he had 12 sacks of money right in front of him but then the troll said "In return you shall let me have what is behind your mill. So off Arkin went wondering why the ugly little troll would want whatever was behind the mill. When he got home Arkin told his family what had happened but then his wife was worried because the children had been playing in that tree all day. So that night when the children had gone to bed they were trying to think of a plan. Then all of a sudden they thought of a plan they went down the street asking people if they could by there children but no one wanted to sell there children so finally they reached the children's Uncles house but he didn't want to sell his child after all but he offered them some lollies because he was a candy maker. But after a while they couldn't think of another plan so they adults just had to dress up in there children's clothes and they would be taken away to be made into adult pie for Kevin's birthday party. So that morning they saw the little ugly troll coming down the street the troll thought to himself as he went up to the children and said "aren't you two a little big to be children"Well sir said Arkin we are very tall aren't that's all."So the troll got them to get in a sack and he would take them back to his cave where all the other trolls were wanting children pie and snail cake. When the children woke up they found a note on the bench saying that there parents had been taken by a troll and that they had to go to there Uncle's and he would look after them so the children packed there things and headed off down the road to there Uncle's. At that point Arkin and his wife saw a little hole in the bottom of the sack and they had a plan that they would leave lollies that the Captain had given to them on the footpath and that she thought that the children would be smart enough to be able to follow the track to the trolls cave. When they got to there Uncle's they told him what had happen and what they should do to get there parents back. So there Uncle took them down the road to see if they were anywhere near but they couldn't see a sign they walked down to the other end of the street where their house was and there Uncle saw a trail of candy leading somewhere so they deiced to follow it. When they got to a hill the trail had stopped and they heard noise from down below them in a cave they knew this was the right place they were thinking of a plan to try rescue their parents their Uncle thought of a great idea but it meant that they had to stripe of and luckily they had two marzipan noses and four marzipan ears so they stuck them and went inside but the boy had his undies still on and the girl still wore her undies and singlet when they got in the lady trolls straight away pulled her into their little hobby in the corner of the big cave and the boy strolled over towards the men troll and Kevin. The way the men greeted each other was by touching tongues together and the laddies greeted each other by banging their bums together. The laddies were more nicer than the boys but they kept on asking very odd questions but the girl didn't mind she just tried to talk back like she would if she was a real troll then the boy trolls started talking about the ladies and the ladies left because they hated it when they talked like that so the only girl troll left so she found her way through the crowd and found her brother and they went into the kitchen where their Mum and Dad were unconscious on a dessert tray. They had picked the right time to go into the kitchen because the cook had gone to get his mincing machine from his friends house. So the two of them rolled the dessert tray out the door but then there was this awful smell and the girl sneezed and part of her marzipan nose came off and then they quickly and quietly took the dessert tray outside and then Kevin went up to the little piece of marzipan and he tasted it and knew that they weren't real trolls but then the cave started to rumble and all the trolls came rushing out of their cave and into boats they had made on the rivers edge and sailed away and all that time when the cane was rumbling they found out that it was there Uncle was dropping fizz bombs into the caves chimney. So there Uncle took them home and when they got home their parents woke up and they had a very good rest of there life. This book is very good for people who like adventures and magical creatures. This book is written by Doug MacLeod.

All Right Vegemite

This book has all kinds of sayings and jokes in some are really funny but some you just don't get here are some examples.   Sweet little Emily Rose sat on a chair to pose but young brother Jack on that chair put a tack and sweet little Emily Rose .  Here is one that is not that funny Erky Perky was a worm a little worm was he he sat upon the railway track the train he did not see Erky Perky.  I recommend this book to all people 10 and over it has some really funny jokes.  There is a series of them Real Keen Baked Bean,Far Out Brussels Sprout,Unreel Banana Peel and Roll Over Pavlova.  This book is by  June Factor.

Judy Moody Predicts the Future

This book is about a girl who has always wanted a mood ring so she turned on the T.V and she saw a add that said that they were putting free mood rings in her favourite box of cereal. So she asked her mum to go shopping that day so when she got home she would have a mood ring. That day when she got home from school she raced into the kitchen and there she saw a box of her favourite cereal so she was just about to rip it open but her annoying brother Stink came into the room and asked what she was doing but she didn't answer because she knew that he would want to help. So when he left the room she got back to work and when she got to the bottom of the packet and she caught a little glimpse of the mood ring. when she went to the breakfast table the next day she thought that she would trick her brother Stink into thinking that she had magic powers so that's why she needed a mood ring. So after breakfast she went outside and got a bucket and found a toad and put it into the club house she then called Stink outside and said I have predicted something that is here in the backyard and it is making a sound if you be very quiet you will hear it so stink went very quiet and he heard the toad and he raced up into the tree house. All of a sudden Judy said I think it is a toad in the tree house and what did Stink find he had found a toad. Stink was so amazed that he ran inside with the frog and told his mum everything and then Stink saw a dark mark on the toads back and then Stink started jumping up and down and Judy asked what he was doing he said this is toady the frog we used to have Judy didn't think it was real so she had a look at it for herself and Stink was right it was Toady. Judy Moody had really predicted the future to Stink of course though but Judy knew it wasn't real. So she told Stink to call her now Madame M. The next day Judy went to school and her teacher said they were having a very important guest is coming to talk to you tomorrow so when Judy got home she went and studied about crayons because the lady who was coming was going to talk about crayons. The next day her teacher was looking in a funny way when the lady was here so she deiced to ask him to put the ring on and if it went red he would be in love with her. When she got home that day she turned on the T.V and there was a add on and it was about a ball and you could ask it questions and it would answer back. So Judy,Stink and her best friend Rocky went down to the mall to see it and when both the boys went into a different shop Judy went into the shop that the ball was in and she asked does my teacher love the crayon lady and it came up saying Yes definitely. The next day at school her teacher came into the class room and said that him and the crayon lady were getting married and that the whole class was invited. So Judy was very pleased that for the first time in her life she had predicted the future. This book is very good and there are a serious of Stink books. This book is written by Megan McDonald.

Dangerous Oceans

This book is about all the dangers in the ocean. This book is very interesting to all the dangers and what to do if something is about to happen to you from a dangerous animal in the ocean. Did you know that an anemones can sting you if you are very ruff with it but most anemones let clownfish fish hide in them and in return the clownfish fish clean there tentacles for them. Snakes are another you can tell the difference between a sea snake and a land snake because a sea snake glides across the top of the water and always has a yellow belly to warn creatures not to disturb them. Also the snakes have massive fangs and they can bit at anything but they can only bit us in between our fingers and our toes. Did you know that jelly fish are very deadly there are some poisons jelly's that kill most fish for no reason. Sometimes jelly fish can be washed up onto the shore in big waves or storms if you step on one it can still sting you so its best to try move it with stick and fling it back into the ocean. Most animals have a discuss in the water to hide from enemy's or to try catch there food but we also have to be careful not to step on them because they can hurt you very easily. Most stingrays swim away from you but they can kill you if you disturb them or chase them. Most stingrays are the colour of sand so it is very easy to catch there prey. This is a very good book for people who like the ocean and want to know what to do if something is going to happen to you. This book is written by Helen Bateman and Jayne Denshire.

Stink and the Worlds Super Smelly Sneakers

This book is about a boy called Stink who goes to the museum with his class, 2d, at his school. There is only one specific reason why they were going there,that is because they were going into the new exhibit which was "The Wonderful World of Smelly Stuff." To get in you needed to walk through a giant mouth which opened and closed every time someone tried to get through it. When they got in Stink and his friends Sophie and Webster went to go and look at the giant nose and there were hairs and Boogies up it. Next Stink tried out the stinking bottles they all sounded pretty disgusting but Stink tried them any way when he tried he just fell to the ground sticking his tongue pretending he was dead. Webster really thought that his best mate had really fainted but then Stink jumped up and gave everyone a fright. Everybody wanted to know if it smelt bad or not and what it smelt like before he fell to the ground. Stink said it smelt like Bad breath, his soccer shirt and someone had dipped a toe into it. Stink thought it was cool so he tried all the rest as well. At there lunch break Stink and his friends sat down and ate there sandwiches while there teacher handed out some pelmets. Stink read the pelmets and knew he got a bubbly feeling it was a grand competition for the worlds stinkiest sneakers. Stink thought to him self I will so win this competition but then his friend Sophie said "I will so win I couldn't wear my sneakers today because my cat just fell to the ground and hid it smelt that bad."But Stink thought to himself even if Sophie has the smelliest sneakers he would not give up. When he got home Stink told his family about all the cool things that he did at the museum and he said that everybody started calling me the nose because I was that good at smelling. But Judy Stinks sister didn't think so so she took Stink upstairs to do a smelly test to prove he was that good at smelling. Judy pulled out a number of things and Stink got them all right but Judy thought that he was peeking. Finally Judy pulled out the last item Stink sniffed it he couldn't think what it was it was that bad he gave up and and Judy had to tell him what it was and it was frogs food. The next day after school Stink got home and went into the kitchen and there was a horrible smell that drifted into the lounge and up the stairs. Judy went down to see what Stink was doing and you wouldn't guess what but he was making poisons out of toilet water and other horrible things. All of a sudden the door bell rang and Judy answered the door it was Sophie Stinks friend from school. Stink invited her in and he told her what he was doing to make smelly poisons to put all over his shoes for the contest on Saturday but Sophie then blurted out "But your not aloud to do that you are only aloud to make them stinky by wearing them all the time."Stink was really upset that he wasn't aloud to do that but he still planned to go to the contest. The day game and he finally got there after an hour drive and then Sophie came rushing up to him and said "the contest has been canceled because one of the judges had caught the flu had had to go home "Stink was very upset but then his teacher came up to him and said"That they needed someone to save the day and the judges thought that you could since you had an excellent nose to smell with."So Stink really had the opportunity to make a decision on who wins the contest so he said a big proud yes. When they started he sniffed all of them and he finally reached a a shoe that was super smelly and he voted for that one. When it was time to judge he really wanted to know who's shoe it was that had the horrible smell. All of a sudden for the winner number 13 was called out and this girl started screaming and raced up to the stage and Stink couldn't believe his eyes it was Sophie. So after he invited his friends to come over and they had pizza and Stink was very thankful that he got to be a judge. This book is very good and funny there is other series of these and books about Stinks sister Judy Moody. This book is written by Megan McDonald.

Santa Paws

This is a book about a very tiny puppy whose Mum used to be a home dog but one day her owners left her so that is how she became a street dog. The tiny puppy had six brothers and sisters. One day the puppy had a major sleep in and when he woke up his brothers and sisters weren't there so he was just about to go looking for them when he heard voices. He went and hid in the shed where they all usually sleep. All of a sudden the puppy hit a rake and the policemen heard him. So they went a little closer to the shed and the dog came further forward. One of the men had a sandwich and was trying to get the dog to come out and see them. Any way the next day he went off for to search for his family. It was getting late and the puppy had been searching all day for his family but he had no luck. So he found a nice place to sleep but it wasn't as comfy as him sleeping with his family. When he woke up he heard voices from above was a boy and his friend there names where Oscar and Gregory. Gregory really liked the puppy because his other puppy had just died. Then after a while the bell rang for Gregory and Oscar to go back inside the school. The puppy waited for a while but his friends didn't come back out so he went on his journey to find his family. He went down Main Street but all he saw was crowds of people setting up decorations so he found a nice bundle of straw to go to sleep in for the night. In the middle of the night he woke up to noise's down behind the decorations of Jesus and the three wise men was lots of laughter. All at once the puppy knew that there was nothing but trouble so the puppy went up to all the laughter. After a couple of steeps he kept on stopping to make sure he was just dreaming. Then when he reached the decorations he saw some boys that he had meet at the school who were big bully's they had spray paint and were destroying everything. The puppy started barking and the kids thought they were a big sukey puppy that was just wanting to play. But then the boys heard the police car pulling in they knew it was them because they were always up to lots of trouble. After the puppy was so hungry so he went back to the school to see if the rubbish bins were open and they were so he had a huge feast and then went to where he had sleeped that night when he woke he heard the sound of voices it was Gregory and Oscar wanting to play with him. All of a sudden he heard crying from the car park he lead the boys where there was crying and there was a lady with four children and they were all sick with the flu. The boys told them that they should be at there house but they didn't want to go back for some reason. Any way they were on there way back to the school when all of a sudden the princalpel of the school came out and both the boys got detention then someone came along and saw the little puppy and taught him some tricks then Gregory came out and said what are you doing here Patrica it was Greggory's big sister any way she was there to pick them up so they left the little dog and went home. The puppy had started to get thristy and went down to the pizza place and water was dripping out of the tank so after a nice cooling drink and went and settled down for a nap. That night he went and had a look at the people that he had found in their car they were know with another family putting up the Christmas tree. The puppy wished that he was with his family right then and stared to wimp. All of a sudden he Saw a Christmas sleigh in the mall and he went there for the night. When he woke up he heard lots and lots of voices and a big fat man got into the sleigh that smelt like bacon and egg. Then he heard Oscar's voice and they saw him and Gregory saw him and showed his mum. That night they had a big conversion about keeping the dog and when he got to there house he didn't think this would happen but his family was living with Oscar's family and they lived happily ever after.
This is a very good book but it is sad in some parts.Written by Nicholas Edwards

Tilly Beany and the Best Friend Machine

This book is about a girl called Tilly Beany who gets back to school after the holidays and there's a new girl in class. Tilly wants to show her around the school. They start chatting and at morning tea time they play with Stephanie. All of a sudden Stephanie takes Bernice around to show her something that Tilly didn't show her. After morning tea their teacher asks them to draw a picture of their best friend. Tilly really wanted to draw Bernice but she was drawing her best friend at her old school. Stephanie drew Courtney but Tilly had no idea who to draw. When she got home she checked the mail. There was an invitation to go up north to spend Christmas with the Martin family. Tilly's dad said that there was a girl there a little bit younger than Tilly. Tilly thought this was her chance to have a special friend. On the way up north Tilly fell asleep. When she woke there was nothing around but sand roads, no houses, no animals, just dusty roads. After a while they saw a house up ahead. They thought that can't be their house but it ended up it was. When they got inside there was a plain wooden floor with a wooden roof. Tilly wondered where Lizzy, the girl a little bit younger than her was. All of a sudden there was a little voice behind the table but once she saw Tilly she ran into her bedroom and shut the door. At dinner when all the kids sat down there was a spare chair next to Lizzy with dinner in front of it. Tilly wondered who was going to sit there. All of a sudden Lizzy said to her mum, "where's Molly's water?" Just then Tilly thought she knew who was sitting there. She thought that Mrs Martin had an invisible kid. When Tilly had finished her dinner she heard Lizzy say Molly and I have finished but the invisible kid didn't eat anything. She thought that invisible kids don't need to eat at all. That night Tilly said to her mum, "I didn't know that Mrs Martin has another kid."

"But she doesn't." said her Mum. "You're probably talking about Lizzy's imaginary friend." The next day Tilly went up to Lizzy and said, "do you have an a imaginary friend because I do?" All of a sudden they thought of heaps of ideas to make them happy at Christmas. The day they left Tilly brought home a best friend machine that Lizzy and she had made. Tilly had wished that she lived in a house with heaps of apple trees, a cute black kitten and a best friend. When they got home their house felt very small. So they went to look in a house that no one lived in. When they got there it was Tilly's dream house with apple trees. They decided to move in. The day they moved in. Tilly heard a noise over the gate. It was three kids. They were all girls. They saw Tilly and invited her over. They played every day with each other. They decided to be best friends. The magic off the best friend machine came true because she also got a kitten from her Dad and they lived happily ever after.

Big Bad Bunnies

This book is about a girl called Sandra who loves insects and scary rides. She likes anything except bunnies. She thinks they have long nasty bunny ears and stare at you with evil eyes and that they wiggle and twitch and they stick out those evil bunny teeth. They give her nightmares. One day they go down to the big carnival in town. They did everything that Sandra wanted to do. Then it was her little brother's turn to choose and he picked the little critter farm. Sandra was a bit worried there might be rabbits so she stood there by the fence and and waited for a big bad bunny to come and leap up to her. After a while she thought no bunnies will come around so she went and played with an adorable calf. When she was playing with the calf she heard a couple of children saying behind her, "oh look at the cute bunny." She then felt this thing jumping over her foot. She told herself, "don't look down don't look down." But it didn't do anything. She thought this was her chance to try pick the bunny up but instead she whacked the bunny into the air with her foot. It hopped away right away from her. At least now she knew that bunnies wouldn't kill her. This is a very good book to read and it is written by Danny Katz.

How Green was my Mouse

This book is about a man called Mr Muffin who is a farmer but not any ordinary farmer but a mouse farmer. He had a robot stuffed dog which barks and growls at anyone who tries to get into the barn that the mice are in. One day his dog starts barking so he goes to check out what has happened. The door was wide open so he went inside. There standing in the corner next to all the different coloured mice was a lady with blond hair as pretty as can be. It all ended up that she bought two mice, one blue one and one pink one after talking a very long time to Mr Muffin. Anyway Merry and Mr Muffin got to know each other and got married. While Merry was thinking about all the different coloured mice she had always wanted, she thought about a green one. She raced outside to where Mr Muffin was and she said "You know how I have always wanted a green mouse, well I know how we can breed one."
"But it's impossible to breed a green mouse, "said Mr Muffin.
"Not if we put a male blue one with a yellow female. They will give birth to green babies. So they tried that and. one day Merry went in to check the babies. She raced out to Mr Muffin and said, "Some of the babies" colour is blueish green."
He said, "what about the other one"
"It's all green," replied Merry. They both rushed inside to see the mouse and she was right. So they entered him into the mouse competition. They named him Adam. He won the competition. He died a couple of weeks after so Mr Muffin stuffed him and put him on the mantelpiece for his new born baby Cherry to look at when she was older .

This book is about a very spoiled girl who lives in royalty with her Mum Queen Ethelwynne and her Dad King Theophilus.
It was her birthday the next day and she wanted a pet pig. So King Theophilus called everyone in town to come to the palace the next day so princess Penelope could choose the pig of her dreams. The next day arrived and the princess was lead out to where all the pigs were lined up ready to be chosen. The princess said no to all of them except for the last one who was ever so skinny and was muddy all over. The boy next to the pig said "Hello my name's Johnny Skinner". Johnny wanted to show the princess the tricks that the pig could do. She could sit, stand, roll over and wipe her feet. The princess asked, "what's her name?" Johnny said, "It's a bit of a silly name but it's Lollipop." As all of the group walked back to the palace Princess Penelope thought to herself my pig Lollipop will be a palace pig. When she got back to the palace she said to her mother and father, " my Lollipop will be a palace pig." That night the queen said to the king, "Penelope can't bring that pig into my palace." Anyway Penelope got away with it because the pig helped with the Queen's flowers. Johnny lived in the little cottage in the garden studying flowers. This is a very good book to read.
